The Look by Sophia Bennett

I went to the bookstore with my Mom over Winter break to find books for gifts, while I was there I found several books that looked good, probably like 6 or 7, but I was only allowed to buy three. So I chose Good-bye Rebel Blue, The Look, and Something Like Fate.

I recently started reading The Look. The Look by Sophia Bennett is about two sisters, Ava and Ted. Ava is older, and has the model look, she’s “the prettier one” with pretty eyes, pretty hair, a nice smile, and that personality that is the perfect mixture of rude and sweet. Ted is her "boring" younger sister, with green eyes, and boring hair, she’s tall and clumsy and is the "average one".  That is until one day when the girls are busking (performing on the streets for money), when a model scout spots Ted. Yes, I said Ted, the "boring, average one". This scout seems sketchy to Ava, but to Ted the scout seems like a chance to put herself out there. The scout tells Ted that she’s got "the look" and gives her his card.

This is as far as I’ve gotten (chapter three I believe) but so far, I’m loving the book. I do know one other thing from the summary on the book cover: Ava gets diagnosed with cancer. I think this book has really great potential, but the diction is kind of ... I don’t know… bland. The author’s choice of words just isn’t very diverse. Other than that small issue, I LOVE the Look. I'll make sure to keep you posted, Happy Reading!
